Privaram Cancer and Research Institute is the brainchild of Dr. M. Banupriya and Dr. L. Manikandan. It is widely said that ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’, it holds true for Privaram. It was born out of a need for a safe treatment centre for cancer patients during the Coronavirus pandemic in 2021. As the virus ran amok among the general population, cancer patients found themselves in a difficult position.
On one side, they were scared to venture out to hospitals due to risk of catching the virus in their vulnerable state and on the other side when they approached a hospital for treatment there was a severe shortage of beds to treat cancer patients. In order to make state of the art cancer care accessible to cancer patients in a safe environment, Dr Banupriya collaborated with Dr Manikandan to establish Privaram Cancer and Research Institute in Valsaravakkam, Chennai.
From the outset, the driving ethos of Privaram is transparent, ethical treatment at an affordable cost and this vision inspired the motto – Modern medicine, traditional care. We seek to provide a homely and safe environment to troubled and sick patients in which they can receive the latest treatment, be it, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, chemotherapy or surgery with the use of latest and best medical equipment.
Dr Banupriya our Chairperson, Founder and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist is a Gold Medallist from the renowned Cancer Institute, Adyar, Chennai. She is highly trained and capable of administering Radiation treatment to patients using all the latest techniques and state of the art machines.
Dr. Manikandan our Managing Director, CEO and Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist is also a Gold Medal recipient from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, one of India’s oldest Medical Universities. In addition to his qualification in Surgical Oncology, he has undergone training in leading International Cancer centres in New York, USA and Tokyo, Japan.
Our staff are highly experienced and take all efforts to ensure that patients are well looked after and motivated to continue fighting against the disease. Together the team at Privaram stands shoulder to shoulder with our patients in fighting the disease and curing them of their ailment. Where cure is not possible we do our best to palliate the symptoms and comfort our patients. Our biggest reward is the smile on our patient’s face as they get better and stronger physically and mentally.
We believe in treating the patient as a whole rather than the disease itself. To do this we have a supporting team of specialists who will care for other co morbidities in the patient like heart problems, hypertension, diabetes etc. which may complicate the treatment. We also have specialists for psychological counselling who look after the mental well being of cancer patients. The other aspect we stress on is cancer screening, we have personalized cancer screening packages to identify and prevent cancers from occurring. If already formed we aim to diagnose at an early stage as this gives best chance of successful cure.
